Purpose

PhD students and their mentors will get opportunity during four days to present their research, to discuss it with the colleagues, to hear inspiring lectures from international highly recognized professors, discuss projects, cooperation and exchange possibilities.

Goal

The goal of the Seminar is to create inspiring environment and provide support to PhD students in their work on their PhD-research, promoting exchange of experiences and results of PhD students’ researches, international cooperation, student to student and student to professor networking, providing workshops on specific topics relevant for PhD study and informing about project opportunities.

Organization

Main organizer of IDS Dubrovnik is University Zagreb, Faculty of Geodesy in Zagreb. Partner organizers are Technical University of Munich Faculty of Civil, Geo and Environmental engineering, Chair of Land Management and the Chair of Geodesy from Germany and Catholic University of Leuven, Public Governance Institute from Belgium with the support of Office for International Cooperation and Centre for Advanced Academic Studies of the University of Zagreb in Dubrovnik

Seminar organizers are University of Zagreb, Technical University of Munich and Catholic University of Leuven. Preparation and execution of the Seminar will be done by the Faculty of Geodesy in Zagreb., Institute for Geodesy, Geomatics and Land Administration in Munich and Institute for Public Governance from Leuven with the support of Office for International Cooperation and Centre for Advanced Academic Studies of University of Zagreb.

For preparation and execution of Seminar an international Organization Committee has been established and its members are:

TECHNICAL DETAILS

The event is taking place on May 14th – 17th 2019. The seminar will start on Tuesday 14th at 13.00 and finish on Friday 17th at 12.30 hours. Event location is Centre for Advanced Academic Studies of the University of Zagreb (CAAS) located in Dubrovnik, Don Frane Bulića 4 (the building at the header of Announcement), only 200 m away from the Pile entrance to the Old town. CAAS is specialized for the organization of schools, conferences, seminars and other academic events and is equipped with all necessary infrastructure for running our seminar. Accommodation and meals (half-pension including breakfast and lunch) are organized in Dormitory of CAAS-a under favourable price conditions. The Dormitory has a total of 70 beds in newly furnished single-, double-, triple- and four-bed rooms or apartments.

PARTICIPANTS

We expect from the Seminar participants – PhD students to prepare one page abstract of their research which will be published in Seminar proceeding and to present their research on the Seminar in the length of 20 - 30 minutes (dependable on the number of participants).

From the teachers and mentors, we expect active participation in the Seminar, either by holding motivation lectures, present research projects, present cooperation possibilities or present on new trends in organization and execution of Postgraduate doctoral studies.

SEMINAR PROGRAMME

Seminar programme will consist from sessions and workshops which will comprehend several types of activities:

- motivation lectures given by professors and mentors,

- Ph.D. students research presentations,

- research projects presentations,

- workshop about how to write and where to publish a scientific paper,

- workshop on student mobility and academic cooperation possibilities and

- workshop on project opportunities and relevance.

Opening session and workshops are foreseen to be held plenary. Student research presentations, dependent on number of participants, are foreseen to be held in three focus groups (geodesy, geoinformatics and astrophysics and astronomy (geospacer)).

VENUE

IDS Dubrovnik will be held in premises of Centre for Advanced Academic Studies (CAAS) of University of Zagreb located in Dubrovnik. CAAS was founded by the University of Zagreb as a public academic institution for international scientific programmes and postgraduate studies.

CAAS location is Don Frana Bulića 4, 20000, Dubrovnik, CROATIA.

CAAS residence:

- Participants will be accommodated in the new CAAS Residence that consists of 21 single and 13 double rooms (each with bathroom, air condition, phone and Internet). It is located on the third floor. There are also 7 double bed apartments (each with kitchenette and bathroom) located on the second floor with free wireless internet connection.

- Transfers, excursions, sightseeing, concerts, special events are also on request provided by CAAS.

- IDS has on disposal 6 double bead appartments in second floor, and in Dormitory on third floor xx single bead rooms, xx duble bead rooms, 1 double rooms with one bathroom (3 beads) and 2 double rooms with one bathroom (4 beads) – total capacity xx participants. Rooms are clean and spacy. Bathrooms are new, towels are provided, but not hairdryer. There is air conditionair in each room.

- Lecture room 4 for 38 participants (round table) or 55 participants (classroom) and lecture room 5 for 20 participants (round table) or 35 participants (classroom) both equped with projector and computer

- additional spaces for meetings are balcony and lobby in Dormitory and atrium of the building.

- big office room with printer and copy machine and plenty space for things

- 2 parking places for cars

- breakfast and lunch will be organized in Restorant „Mimoza“

- coffee breaks will be provided by Art caffee in the CAAS building

CAAS working facilities & equipment:

- Conference hall with equipment for simultaneous translation (3 languages), sound system, audio recording and supporting technical devices and assistance (video-data projector, overhead projector, slide projector, projection screen, flip chart, video recorder, TV monitor, CD player, PC, Internet);

- Lecture rooms with supporting technical devices and assistance (video-data projector, overhead projector, slide projector, projection screen, flip chart, video recorder, TV monitor, CD player, PC, Internet);

- Offices for organizers (phone/fax, PC, laser printer, copy machine);

- Exhibition area with exhibition panels and roll-up banners;

- Library;

- Computer room with 25 PCs;

Free wireless internet connection all around the building;

- Coffee shop.

* There is heating and air-condition system in the building to enable the work all around the year.

** Simultaneous translation - will not be provided. Working language will be english!
