This LLL course introduces SDI concepts and technology to the spatial data users (e.g. professionals who use spatial datasets for their tasks).

Learning outcomes:

  • understand and explain the concepts and components of a SDI
  • understand and explain the elements of the INSPIRE Directive on Data and Service Sharing
  • to describe and discuss the opportunities for different sectors to contribute to the development, maintenance and exploitation of INSPIRE
  • list and illustrate the most advanced SDIs in Europe and best practices

This LLL course introduces use of the web services (WMS, WFS, CSW) to the spatial data users and how to transform and harmonize own spatial data to be used together with data obtained from web-services.

Learning outcomes:

  • identify and describe the principles, concepts and characteristics of web services
  • list and describe the specifications of the OGC standard for a Catalogue Service for the Web (CSW), a Web Map Service (WMS) and a Web Feature Service (WFS) and provide examples for each of them
  • identify and understand the source and target data models
  • fill in a matching table
  • perform a data transformation from a non-harmonized source dataset into a harmonized one and to export a harmonized GML dataset
