Pre-workshop kayak excursion around Pakleni otoci and Hvar coastline
Time: Saturday, May 19 to Monday, May 21
Meeting point Hotel Pharos (venue of 11th ICA Mountain Cartography Workshop), Saturday, May 19 between 11 and 12 am – please check the timetable of ferry and catamaran. In case of unsuitable connections please contact us.
Price 260 EUR / person includes:
- high quality sea double kayak rent (Prijon/Seabird) with full equipment package (paddle, life jacket, spray skirt, dry bags, ropes, rudder, water pump, first aid kit, emergency signal etc.),
- 2 nights camping [camp equipment (tent, sleeping bag) can be rented for 8 EUR / person, inform us if needed]
- 2 meals in restaurant / farm house, food for breakfast, snacks
- transfers
Extra costs: drinks at restaurants, special needs

ICA Scholarships 2017–2019
The International Cartographic Association (ICA) supports individuals in advancing their career in cartography and GIScience to the benefit of the ICA community by ICA scholarships for young scientists or professionals in cartography and GIScience.
For participation in a Commission workshop this scholarship has a maximum of €500 (or €750 when the applicant is from a non-developed member nation).

Dr. Bojan Vršnak from Hvar Observatory received international award for outstanding scientific research in the field of space weather
On Monday, November 27, 2017, during the 14th European Space Weather Week, held in the Belgian town Oostende, Dr. Bojan Vršnak from Hvar Observatory, Faculty of Geodesy, University of Zagreb, was awarded with the eminent international award “Kristian Birkeland Medal” for outstanding scientific contributions to the space weather and space climate. This award is given every year since 2013 to the best scientists by the European Space Agency, the Belgian Solar-Terrestrial Center of Excellence and the Space Weather Working Team, in collaboration with the scientific magazine Journal of Space Weather and Space Climate. Organizing team visited Hvar
Dušan Petrovič, CMC president and organizing team (Dražen Tutić, Milo Tadić and Matjaž Štanfel) visited Hvar from 12th to 14th October, 2017. We have arranged all details with the hotel and took exploration of the Island of Hvar to prepare interesting options for our island tour and other activities. We visited the Hvar Observatory, found some hidden beaches, hiked to St. Nicholas peak from Sveta Nedilja, and discovered picturesque villages (Velo Grablje and Malo Grablje), arranged a boat for our tour around Paklinski Islands, visited Jelsa, Vrboska, Stari Grad, tasted some fine local wines and finally left the island of Hvar in Sućuraj.
Soon we will open registrations and let you choose among options to best suite your preferences.
We truly enjoyed the stunning views of the island and Adriatic Sea during these three mid-October sunny days on Hvar, with temperatures up to 30° Celsius and sea temperature of 21° Celsius.
We will soon share more of our experiences.

We have prepared a small flyer of the workshop for participants of the ICC2017 in Washington, D.C. Please, use it to promote our workshop.
Organizing team visited hotels Pharos and Amfora
On June 9, 2017 we visited our hosts in Hvar. Ms Tomislava Vrgoč from Sunčani Hvar kindly showed us all what we need for the workshop and our free time. The Hotel Pharos, where participants will stay, is a newly refurbished hotel with modern vibe and an idyllic terrace for having breakfast and coffee on open air by the pool. The Conference center is only few minutes away, in Hotel Amfora, offering full comfort and a beautiful view over the sea.
